When I scream down and into this machine It grins back<\/p>\n

Multiple hammers flailing at me<\/p>\n

As my words spitting out Cries<\/p>\n

straining among muted steel Can<\/p>\n

feelings be stapped down<\/p>\n

As immutable punch press tattoos<\/p>\n

Layton<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The famous people at the Poetry address<\/p>\n

Laughed cogently behind their hands<\/p>\n

At my little messes of paper and raw script<\/p>\n

They say “He should have written this as a sonnet”<\/p>\n

And “This doesn\u2019t even make sense”<\/p>\n

Later as they sipped their raw umber coffee<\/p>\n

And easily slipped a rejection notice into my SSAE<\/p>\n

They took out another manila packet from the mail drop Saying<\/p>\n

“listen to this’, listen to this’.” As the laughs come again<\/p>\n

Layton<\/p>\n

Diaphonous notes<\/p>\n

Played on an unseen accordian<\/p>\n

Seem to murmur responses<\/p>\n

In ones heartchords<\/p>\n

Like passing candlewicks<\/p>\n

The flowing of ignited streamtrails<\/p>\n

Regales the forms of loves passage<\/p>\n

Shadows and silhouette snippings<\/p>\n

Gush through straggards and<\/p>\n

Empty throated bottles<\/p>\n

Do the new-sounds hollow your name<\/p>\n

Branches can be broken off<\/p>\n

Even in whispers<\/p>\n

Dutchesses wish on the morrow<\/p>\n

Where noonday sorrows are yet purer<\/p>\n

Did yesterdays kisses remain pursed.<\/p>\n

Or do we cut them off<\/p>\n

By daring to tell of them<\/p>\n

Is our merest thought enough<\/p>\n

To banish them from becoming<\/p>\n

As orchids blanch at our touch<\/p>\n

No matter how faint<\/p>\n

We beseech you now and forever<\/p>\n

As love’s requitted liquid paint<\/p>\n

Dries on the lips<\/p>\n

Lolling in shallow pools<\/p>\n

Fire and ice piranha<\/p>\n

Blank expressionless needle eyes<\/p>\n

Following your shadow<\/p>\n

Obliquely scanning the surface<\/p>\n

With surgical precision<\/p>\n

New patterns running now<\/p>\n

Through a primitive brain<\/p>\n

Electrical charged memory<\/p>\n

Like a digital watch movements<\/p>\n

Dimly recollecting the pleasures<\/p>\n

Of meeting sinew and bone<\/p>\n

Juntas hastily arranged<\/p>\n

When the unwary tried short cuts<\/p>\n
